Valdovinos Home Dedication

Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley celebrated the completion of its 56th home at a dedication ceremony on Saturday, March 23rd. While it was a cold and snowy day, many people attended the dedication which was held inside the home.

The proud owners of the 56th home are Florencio and Vicky Valdovinos and their three children. Florencio and Vicky began the Habitat process in early 2012 and over the past year have contributed over 500 hours of sweat equity to their home and other Habitat homes being built.

Since breaking ground on their home in August, the Valdovinos have made a great effort to thank all who have been involved in making their dream of homeownership come true. The Valdovinos home was made possible by 11 local churches who worked together to sponsor the home financially and provide the volunteers to help build it. The Valdovinos Family would like to thank the following churches for their support: Calvary Church, Central Presbyterian Church, Erie United Methodist Church, Faith Community Lutheran Church, First Congregational UCC, First United Methodist Church, Flatirons Community Church, Longmont Community of Christ, Longs Peak United Methodist Church, Rocky Mountain Christian Church and The Journey of Longmont.

The Valdovinos Family cannot wait to move in and make the house their home. When asked what their house will mean to them, Vicky responded “The house means gratitude, unity, happiness and stability. We believe that our dreams can be achieved while living here”. Once they move in, the family will assume a no-profit loan and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to build more Habitat homes in the St. Vrain Valley.

St. Vrain Habitat Finishes Second A Brush With Kindness Home

On Saturday, September 29th Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley partnered with the City of Longmont to repair the home of Terry Thompson, a veteran, former engineer and Longmont homeowner for 36 years. The home is located at 1105 Lefthand Drive. This was the second home in the St. Vrain Valley area to take part in Habitat's A Brush with Kindness program.

A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) is an exterior home preservation program that provides painting, landscaping and minor repair services for homeowners in need. 15 Volunteers for ABWK helped Terry preserve and restore the beauty of his home.

“This is an exciting new way for Habitat to demonstrate its commitment to the Longmont community,” stated David Emerson, Executive Director of St. Vrain Habitat for Humanity. “We believe revitalizing our neighborhoods is important role for Habitat.” ABWK is a national program and part of Habitat's larger mission to serve more families by revitalizing the appearance of neighborhoods as a whole.

Ground Blessing for the Nunez-Garcia Home

On October 27th over 45 people participated in the Ground Blessing of the Nunez-Garcia home. This is the third home in the Baker Street five-plex located at the corner of 15th Avenue and Baker Street in Longmont.

Father Grzegorz Wojcik from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church provided the blessing and led those in attendance in prayers for God's blessing on the family and safety for all those who will work on the home.

Evelyn Nunez, EJ Garcia and their two children - Jeremiah & Emmy - were excited to break ground on their new home and get the homebuilding process started. Up to this point, Evelyn and EJ have been working hard to get their sweat equity hours in by working on their neighbors' homes and taking financial fitness and homeownership classes through Boulder County. They both have enjoyed working on the Baker Street site but can't wait to start to putting hours towards their own home!

Current home sponsors are the Skyline Kiwanis Club, Qualcomm, CableLabs and Adams Bank & Trust.
